ABSTRACT
This chapter gives guidance for design of load-bearing timber members exposed to a standard fire. An overview of the principles needed to predict the effect of charring and heating is presented. Simplified design models around the world are described, including design models from the second generation of Eurocode 5 (the European Charring Model and the Effective Cross Section Method). Calculation examples of timber members are also presented.
